In an effort to keep interested parties informed and apprised on the latest developments related to Cal MediConnect, the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) is pleased to offer this roundup, which includes news items of interest and upcoming stakeholder participation opportunities.
90 Day Notice and Envelope Available
DHCS committed to stakeholders that they would have an opportunity to see the final versions of notices to be mailed out to beneficiaries. We will be sharing the final versions of the 60 and 30 day notices and materials in future emailupdates, but wanted to make sure there was an opportunity for people to view the 90 Day Notice. Per the current timeline, these notices will begin to go out in five counties in January 2014: Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, and San Mateo.
Cal MediConnect Ombuds Program Request for Proposal (RFP) To Be Released Soon
DHCS has been working with our partners at the Department of Managed Health Care (DMHC) on systems and processes related to the new Cal MediConnect Ombuds Program, which will be administered by DMHC. You can read more about the program in this fact sheet. An RFP for entities to apply to act as qualified Ombuds Service Providers (OSPs) will be released in January.
You can read more about and keep up with the latest on the Cal MediConnect Ombuds Program via this webpage.

Next Quarterly Stakeholder Meeting
Per feedback on the August 27, 2013, Quarterly Stakeholder Meeting, we are introducing a format that is conference call only with an agenda that is divided between two different times during the day and focuses in on specific topics of interest. We are hopeful that this format helps facilitate some more of the requested in-depth conversations and makes it easier for attendees to participate in the sessions.
The Quarterly Stakeholder Meeting will take place on Friday, January 17th. Please click on the links below to register for either or both portions of the agenda:
“Enrolling in a Cal MediConnect plan means that you keep your
Medicare and Medi-Cal beneits with no extra cost but you must use your Cal MediConnect providers.”
This is confusing. It makes it seem like you have to use Cal Mediconnect for both Medicare and Medi-Cal.
It should read something like this:

I was unable to cut and paste the part I wanted to address here but it is related to: 1. Enroll in a Cal MediConnect plan.
You really need to mention here that if a dual eligible person picks this plan, they will no longer be able to see their current Medicare doctors UNLESS said doctors are contracted by the Medi-Connect insurance plan that they choose.

So… is Los Angeles County out for now?
The Coordinated Care Initiative is still being implemented in Los Angeles County. While this is true, Los Angeles County has a unique enrollment strategy. You can find a draft version of the LA County enrollment strategy, here. Please note that the enrollment strategy for LA is still being finalized based on recent stakeholder feedback, so what is posted is not a final version of the strategy.
