Ombudsman Program available starting April 1, 2014

Beginning today, Cal MediConnect participants can ask questions and resolve problems regarding their health care through the Cal MediConnect Ombudsman Program. Housed within the Department of Managed Health Care (DMHC) and initiated with help from the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS), the Ombudsman service will be performed by an independent, third party firm. This will allow for more objective analysis and observation.

The ombudsman program is designed to:

  • assist enrollees filing appeals and complaints where needed
  • investigate, negotiate and resolve enrollee problems/complaints with Cal MediConnect plans
  • refer enrollees to relevant entities and programs as needed

Ombuds will offer independent, local, person-centered, and linguistically and culturally competent assistance with Cal MediConnect issues.

Call (855) 501-3077 (TTY 1-855-847-7914) for help with navigating Cal MediConnect.

For more detailed information about the service, visit CalDuals’ Ombudsman Resources section.

To whom this may concern, for crying out loud i am not a happy camper with this change i currently have Medicare/Medi-Cal i was born with sacral agenesis with total paraplegia severely disabled no bladder or bowl function. I have Doctor specialist’s that i have seen for many years some since i was born.. unfortunately they do not accept these HMO plans that you are offering for me changing Doctors can be judgmental to my health. I truly wish you guys would make this change optional and not forced since it would be really inconvenient for most of us Thank you.

I was transferred to Contra Costa Med-Cal by Covered California. The customer service person was rude and extremely unhelpful. Unless I wanted to enroll in Medi-Cal she was going to end the call. I was transferred to her my Covered California to complete my application. She treated me as if I was ignorant and would only respond to pre-scripted questions, as if she were a robot and not a person. She was not interested helping me. She was an anonymous bureaucrat, unwilling to listen and treat me like a human being.
