Information table at World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

FreeJoin the Department of Aging and Adult Services (DAAS) for an Elder Abuse Awareness Symposium designed to raise awareness of elder abuse, neglect and exploitation.
Millions of older persons are abused, neglected, and exploited. Once a year on June 15th, communities and municipalities around the world plan activities and programs to recognize World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD).
Attendees can receive LCSW/MFT Continuing Education Units (2 CEUs) as well as CEUs for the California Association of the Public Guardian.

- 9:00-9:15 – Welcome
- 9:15-10:15 – Advocacy, Policy, and Trends in Elder Justice by Lisa Nerenberg, California Elder Justice Coalition (CEJC), Executive Director. Overview of history, accomplishments, and current activities of CEJC to promote elder justice within & beyond California., along with promising practices and policies developed in California.
- 10:15-10:30 – BREAK
- 10:30-11:30 – Overview of the Criminal Justice System:Abuse and Scams Targeting the Elderly by Cindy Hendrickson, Victoria Robinson and Greg Ovanessian, Office of the District Attorney. An overview of the criminal justice system, with a focus on what is needed to initiate a criminal case for elder abuse and the three potential outcomes of a case. Additionally, common scams targeting the elderly will be covered.
